An interview with Lorenzo Campolo and Alessandro Gardenal, Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Management students, and coordinators of H-FARM Radio

Hello! Would you like to tell us a bit about yourselves and what motivated you to study at H-FARM College?

Lorenzo:
“I’m Lorenzo, 20 years old, and I come from Conegliano. I’ve always been an outgoing and curious person. Since high school (linguistic high school), I’ve been interested in sustainability and innovation. Therefore, the choice to study at a place like H-FARM College, where innovation is the key focus, was a natural one, especially because it could help me realize my dream of founding a startup.

Alessandro:
“I’m Alessandro, 20 years old, and I come from Codognè. I also studied in a linguistic high school, and this experience made me understand how important it is to open up to an international environment, to adapt to challenges and changes. H-FARM College turned out to be the right place that allowed me to seize opportunities tailored to me, such as the radio project, which has helped me grow and learn a lot. My passion for music led me to be part of this project, where I brought my musical tastes and creativity to two programs about music.”

Together with other young individuals, you are the face of a beautiful project where the voice takes center stage, H-FARM Radio. What added value do you think this type of experience is providing to your education? In your opinion, what are the strengths of the project?

Lorenzo:
“Countless, but if I had to choose the top three, first, I would mention the skills acquired in speaking. I used to, and still do to some extent, speak very quickly and be sometimes incomprehensible because I tend to mumble. Thanks to the radio, I’ve learned, by listening to my voice in the headphones, to enunciate each word better so that it comes out as clearly as possible. Second, I would say the confidence in speaking in front of a microphone. I had the honor and responsibility on a couple of occasions to go on stage in front of all my friends and university classmates to interview important figures, including celebrities and entrepreneurs. Fortunately, the radio experience helped me maintain a certain level of confidence and composure in front of the microphone despite the pressure of the event. Finally, in this past year, I had the opportunity to develop management and team coordination skills, with the help of Alessandro and a team of enthusiastic and motivated individuals who certainly made our lives easier. These are just three aspects, but they are only the tip of the iceberg because I haven’t even mentioned content creation, interview management and coordination, technical hard skills with recording programs, and much more!”

Alessandro:
“The radio project deserves a course of its own because there are so many things to learn! Firstly, speaking in front of a microphone. I already had some confidence in doing so because I play in a band, but in these two years, I’ve learned how to interview even prominent people, managing emotions and creating interesting content. But the real difference is made by the people: if there’s one thing I’ve learned from all the guests we’ve interviewed, it’s that the group makes the difference. Lorenzo and I have created a beautiful team of people who have become passionate about this world, and each has contributed with their voice and ideas to the creation of many contents. One thing we’ve noticed is that many students from the College wanted to join the project not only at the beginning but throughout the year because they saw it as an excellent opportunity to improve and have fun.”

Where can we listen to you? How is the schedule currently structured?

Lorenzo:
“Everywhere! This year, one of our goals was to expand the distribution of our content to as many channels as possible. In addition to the web radio, which can be accessed through the H-FARM College app and is live 24/7, we are also on Spotify. All our podcasts and interviews can be found under the H-FARM profile. Moreover, we are on H-FARM Plus, the new platform created by H-FARM dedicated to content produced within the Campus. You can also listen to us while walking around the Campus; we are on Campus-diffusion every day from 8 in the morning to 8 in the evening. The schedule includes multiple formats every week, starting on Monday with “11 Minutes Talk” and ending on Friday with “Crypto & Beyond.” But every day, there are various different programs covering topics from the world of work to music, daily news to blind dates on the radio—there’s a format for everyone’s taste!

Alessandro:
“Exactly, we wanted to be present on as many platforms as possible. A significant step this year was creating the Spotify page for the radio, with all the interviews and podcasts produced by our team. It’s a great satisfaction to open the H-FARM Spotify profile and hear all the voices of our team! Our schedule is diversified, featuring both live programs like ‘AutoTune’ and ‘JustRock’ and podcast versions.”

In the studio, you have the opportunity to meet and interview many guests. Is there a particular encounter or anecdote that you still remember with a smile?

Lorenzo:
“There are so many guests we’ve had the pleasure of talking to and numerous anecdotes, so choosing one is really difficult. However, if I had to mention something that always brings a smile and satisfaction, it would be looking at the wall of signatures when I enter the radio. Here, you can find the signatures of every guest who has been on the radio during this academic year, from the first, Marcello Ascani, to the latest, for now, the Suonica guys. Looking at that wall makes me think of all the stories that have ‘passed through’ the radio and all the work we’ve done in these 9 months, and for me, it has truly immense value.

Alessandro:
We’ve had the opportunity to learn many stories and receive valuable advice during this radio experience. One guest I was genuinely pleased to interview was Marcello Ascani, whom I’ve been following since middle school. Back then, I would have never thought that one day I would casually talk to him in front of microphones. The experience of interviewing Achille Lauro in the Big Hall in front of all the College students (and driving him in a golf cart to the radio) was also very stimulating, especially because I realized that the more experience you gain, the more you can tackle significant challenges with ease and composure.”

Internet and social networks are influencing our way of communicating and consuming content. In your opinion, what language(s) will the radio speak in the future?

Lorenzo:
“The beauty of this radio is that it will never be standardized in any way. It’s made by students for students, and this also applies to the language. Take music, for example: to date, Alessandro and I have given a certain style to the musical taste that follows our preferences and passions, nostalgic rock/pop from the ’90s and early 2000s. However, this doesn’t have to be the definitive style. It will probably change, and it’s right that it does because the radio aims to speak to students with the voice of students. Year after year, they will bring their ideas and passions to the radio. This is what makes the Campus radio unique in style and content.”

Alessandro:
“Radio has always proven to be a tool that can face technological changes without major revolutions. It will undoubtedly need to be increasingly present in an omni-channel manner but capable of maintaining the freedom that distinguishes it, allowing people to express themselves as truthfully as possible. Radio is a very creative tool, different from others, because sound is unseen, but it reaches directly into each of us and, above all, allows us to use the most personal and unique tool we have – our voice.”
