MAGICA Summer School
We hosted 20 students from all over the world for an important European project on climate change.
MAGICA – that stands for “MAximising the synergy of European research Governance and Innovation for Climate Action” – is a Coordination and Support Action funded under the Horizon Europe program and coordinated by CMCC Foundation – Centro Euro Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici. The project involves 24 organisations aiming to create a multi-directional dialogue with different relevant social actors to inform citizens but also detect the social needs concerning the transition to climate-neutrality and climate science.
In the frame of this European project, from July 3rd to 7th, 20 brilliant young students coming from all over the world met at H-FARM Campus to spend an inspiring week together.
Thanks to this unique learning opportunity, the participants could explore an all-encompassing approach to climate change-related issues through Data Management. From the role of Data Analytics in the Internet of Thinks (IoT) to the basics of how the global climate system functions: during the Summer School they attended lessons and talks by prominent speakers, such as Joonas Merikanto (Chair of the Joint Programming Initiative “Connecting Climate Knowledge for Europe”, Irish Environmental Protection Agency), Valentina Scardigno (Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change ASC Division, CMCC and H-FARM) and Sandro Fiore (Head of the HPCI Lab, Department of Information engineering and Computer Science at University of Trento, H-FARM).
Guided by Zeno Tosoni, Entrepreneur and Startup Founder, and Cristiano De Nobili, Physicist & AI Scientist, they experienced the entrepreneurial life with the acceleration program at H-FARM’s Entrepreneurship & Startup Center. After dividing into groups, they worked together turning their ideas into real business projects aimed at finding possible solutions to some of the biggest challenges we are currently facing. The projects – revolving around different issues – have then been presented and discussed in front of a jury of experts: Filippo Zanella, Director of SaaS Integrations at ForceManager, Diego Pizzocaro, CMO at ForceManager and Silvia Mion, Principal -Strategy Innovation at Maize.
The jury then selected the winning one, named “EcoHomie”: a transformative smart home plug-in that interprets climate data, promotes universal climate literacy and empowers effortless, sustainable living.
Our congratulations to each and every member of the winning team: Siena Turnbull, Giulia Simonotti, Eugenia Nosenzo, Adriana D’Amico and Elina Baltina.
