H-FARM College students at the Libere e Uguali press conference with the “Diary Ally” project

Yesterday, a group of H-FARM College students travelled to Milan, to the Teatro Elfo Puccini, to take part in the press conference of Libere e Uguali, an initiative promoted by Donna Moderna, with H-FARM College as one of the scientific partners.

The spotlight was on the students behind Diary Ally, the project developed over weeks of work guided by Alessandro Scandaletti and Vittoria Lazzer from H-FARM AI. The team — Beatrice, Eleonora, Francesco, Klea, Mariangela, Martina, Valerio and Vaneja — presented to the audience the prototype of the app, already previewed during our Career Day, sharing the research, experimentation and development process that brought them to this point. The reaction from the room was immediate: strong engagement throughout the press conference and, in the end, many questions from attendees curious to understand how the idea was born and how technology had been integrated into a project designed to speak to young people authentically.

On the same day, Donna Moderna — a magazine that for over 35 years has been telling the story of women’s evolution through print, web, podcasts, social media and cross-media projects — released a special issue featuring a two-page article on Diary Ally, with interviews with Francesco Saltarelli, tech leader of the project, and Martina Esposito, team leader.

During the press conference, Antonella Sannella, Executive Director of H-FARM College, joined the panel together with the other scientific partners of the Libere e Uguali initiative.

Diary Ally: an app designed by Gen Z for Gen Z

Diary Ally is a digital emotional diary developed by H-FARM College students in collaboration with Donna Moderna and Fondazione Libellula, an organisation committed for years to preventing gender-based violence and promoting a culture of respect and equality.

The app was created to offer young people a safe space to reflect on their relationships and recognise potential toxic dynamics. At its core is an artificial intelligence system capable of analysing language, recurring words and relational patterns, identifying possible signs of harmful behaviours. Interaction happens via chat and a voice agent, with a friendly and non-judgmental tone.

Alongside the emotional component, Diary Ally integrates an educational section featuring quizzes and testimonies provided by Libellula and the Donna Moderna editorial team. User safety is central: features such as the “shake” option to quickly hide the screen, Face ID, and emergency numbers ensure a protected and conscious experience. The project is now in an advanced stage of prototyping on iOS, with the goal of further strengthening the technological infrastructure and developing an Android version.
