Overview
Cinema, animation, visual effects, real-time technologies and artificial intelligence are converging, giving rise to new forms of screen storytelling. Animated and hybrid productions today require people who can not only use the tools, but lead increasingly complex teams, pipelines and creative processes.
That is why studios and production companies are looking for professionals able to direct a sequence, a character’s performance, a virtual production set or a film made with AI systems, and to justify every creative and technical choice with critical thinking and an authorial vision.
The Master of Arts in Film & Animation at H-FARM College trains the future directors and supervisors of animated and hybrid production: professionals who combine visual storytelling and direction with in-depth knowledge of 3D pipelines, character animation, visual effects, virtual production, AI filmmaking and advanced post-production. A film and animation master’s that goes beyond software mastery to develop critical judgment, leadership and a distinct professional identity.

Why a master’s in Film & Animation
This film and animation master’s approaches every discipline from the perspective of direction and supervision. 3D production, animation, visual effects and post-production are not the end goal, but the tools through which you learn to direct: a sequence, a character’s performance, a virtual set, a film made with artificial intelligence and the finishing of the image, while overseeing the entire pipeline that produces them.
For this reason, the program assumes a good operational command of production tools. Graduates of the H-FARM College BA in Animation, Design & Visual Arts gain direct access without repeating content already covered, while those coming from other backgrounds can reach the required level through a preparatory course.
You will develop your identity as an author and specialist, while learning to contribute effectively within multidisciplinary studio teams, and you will approach issues of authorship, representation and the use of new creative technologies in an ethical and responsible way.
You will study on a 51-hectare green campus just outside Venice, with study spaces, housing, sports facilities, restaurants, a library and more than 300 events every year. The Creativity, Arts & Design area provides dedicated spaces, advanced workstations, specialized equipment and workshops, in an environment where education, technology and startups coexist every day.

The second semester takes you to the frontiers of contemporary production: virtual production and real-time technologies; AI filmmaking, with the creation of a short film documented by a decision log; and Expanded Media & Post Production, the only group course in the master’s, dedicated to compositing, color grading and installation works.
The third semester is entirely dedicated to the Experiential Term, a bridge between study and professional practice.
